Designer carpets
High-quality Carpets, which are based on designs by well-known Designer based – therein lies the strength of Designer carpets. Each carpet is handcrafted exclusively for its owner. The company's history began in 1949 when the Drechsle family opened a specialty shop selling traditionally knotted Oriental carpets. Word of their quality and service spread quickly. A dedicated production facility in Kathmandu, Nepal, enabled the creation of unique, custom-made carpets starting in 1983. Besides being a pioneer in processing what were then exotic materials like hemp and nettle, the German family business from Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg, is particularly committed to the responsible treatment of its employees and resources. "That's why we at DESIGNERCARPETS pay meticulous attention to working conditions," emphasizes Stefan Drechsle. Child labor is strictly prohibited.
Carpets by, with and for designers
With the possibilities of in-house production, the owner had the idea to break new ground: carpets by, with, and for designers. In 1999, he created a Mickey Mouse carpet in the Miró style for the Swedish actor, director, and artist Lasse Åberg. When the carpet was presented at Lasse Brander's gallery in the old town hall in Inzlingen, Stefan Drechsle met Marianne Panton. They quickly agreed: Verner Panton's carpet designs had to be revived.
Fruitful collaboration
“This encounter marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration,” recalls Drechsle. Designs were discussed and carpet samples produced repeatedly – until the colors and quality finally satisfied everyone. “The development work took place in truly exceptional premises, designed by none other than…” Verner Panton ”They could have been designed,” Drechsle says with shining eyes.
The beginning of designer carpets
It was the beginning of a new direction and the start of DESIGNERCARPETS. Afterwards, Stefan Drechsle met other contemporary designers. He has been friends with Pierre Paulin since 2004. Karim Rashid designed carpets specifically for DESIGNERCARPETS. Patrick Norguet, Carmen Stallbaumer, and Arik Levy complete the repertoire of elegant and exclusive home textiles made from virgin wool and silk.
