Flos got off to a flying start in 1962 with Castiglion's Arco arc lamp. Because, Arco is floor lamp and pendant light at the same time. A hybrid whose expansive metal arch is held by a 60 kilogram block of marble from the Carrara quarries. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni developed the Arco arched luminaire as lighting for dining tables and seating areas in the living area, without the need for an elaborate ceiling fixture. The Arco arched luminaire therefore offers a solution for all room situations characterized by high ceilings. Universal lighting that can be easily turned in any direction using a simple broomstick inserted through the opening in the base.

Craft and technology

The Arco arc lamp is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and technology. This is because the solid marble base of the luminaire is cut from a single block of marble in Carrara, Italy. After careful polishing, the marble block is given its smooth and silky, typical finish. The steel arc of the luminaire is shaped, bent and chrome-plated using precision tools. This gives the Arco floor lamp its shiny and reflective finish. At the same time, the light from the arched luminaire can be dimmed continuously, allowing you to adjust the lighting mood individually and always have the right light to hand: when eating, reading, watching TV or relaxing.
