With a length of 25 centimetres, this coat hook may be the smallest piece of furniture Gaudí ever made. However, producing it requires more complexity than any other, larger work, as the details of the coat hook prove when you look at them more closely.

The Calvet coatstand consists of a central, rectangular wooden body with curved edges. The surface is interrupted by three horizontal openings and connected in the middle by two brass-coated steel bands to form another pair of elements, also made of wood. Accessories such as scarves and umbrellas can be stored here. Brass-coated steel bands lend the wall coat rack a certain liveliness and surprise.

The former owner of the house, an avid forest lover and mushroom collector, incorporated his passion into the interior design. Gaudí designed a massive coat hook that replicates the shape of a mushroom and is wrapped around and seemingly held in place by the steel bands.

In 1975, BD Barcelona brought the furniture of Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí back to life. Furniture that Antoni Gaudi designed for his houses Casa Batlló and Casa Calvet are manufactured using exactly the same elaborate production processes that were used to produce the first pieces. In addition to the chairs named after the houses "Batlló Chair" and "Calvet Chair", the "Calvet mirror" and this "Calvet wall coat rack", it is above all stylistic elements such as door handles, lever handles and peepholes, so-called "spies", that bring Gaudí's unique "Modernisme" design style, a Spanish variation of Art Nouveau, to life within your own four walls.

The Calvet wall coat rack is part of the Art Editions from BD Barcelona, which contains exclusively handcrafted art objects - exclusive, unique and of timeless elegance and value. TAGWERC as an official partner of BD Barcelona offers the original designs from the Art Editions of BD Barcelona both online and offline.

Antoni Gaudí is one of the most famous - if not the most famous - Spanish architects of the 20th century. Born in Catalonia, he created a series of fantastic buildings in his home city of Barcelona that still attract millions of visitors every year. To match his buildings, Gaudí created a series of furnishings that reflect his design style, 'Modernisme'.
