Canned light
Clou with tin can
Canned Light is the name of this compact and artfully simple hanging lamp. This is because Canned Light uses an original Campbell's Tomato Soup can not only as a lampshade, but also as packaging. "You buy a can and then it contains everything you need," describes Designer Christoph Matthias the idea behind the design. Together with Hagen Sczech, his colleague at Ingo Maurer GmbH at the time, the two of them developed this original lamp, which can be used as a wall light can also be mounted as a pendant light. The highlight: just like a conventional tin can, the Campbell can of Canned Light is filled with all the parts needed to use Canned Light as a wall light or pendant light to use. You don't even need a can opener to get to the contents of the Canned Light, because - just like the original Campell's Tomato Soup - the Canned Light has a pull ring.

Campell's is cult
"Campbell's tomato soup is the most iconic can there is," says lighting designer Christoph Matthias in an interview with TAGWERC to the creation of the Canned Light. Campbell's Tomato Soup with the iconic red-white
label was launched on the market back in 1897. It was the first soup created by Campell. With minor changes, the recipe for the tomato soup is said to remain virtually unchanged to this day. To ensure that the soup met taste expectations, Campbell says he carried out extensive research, including taste tests with people in all 50 states of the USA. The results showed that the overwhelming majority of people still liked Campbell's Tomato Soup. Nine out of ten people said they would buy Campbell's Tomato Soup as often or more often after trying it.
Campbell's Soup Cans as a work of art
One person who had a special relationship with Campbell's Soup was Andy Warhol. "I ate the same [Campbell's soup] for lunch every day for twenty years," Warhol is quoted as saying on the Museum of Modern Art website. Warhol first exhibited his 'Campbell's Soup Cans' pictures of Campbell's soup in a solo exhibition in Los Angeles in 1962. With 32 different Campbell's Soup flavors, each of the 32 paintings represented a type of soup. The artworks were displayed side by side like the cans lined up next to each other on a grocery store shelf. These paintings not only helped launch Warhol's career and establish Pop Art as a major art movement in the United States, but also made Campell's Soup known worldwide.
Design Statement
Through the experimental use of an original Campell's Tomato Soup can as a lampshade and a light source housed inside, breathtaking scenarios can be created - inspired by Andy Warhol. The wall and pendant light Canned Light therefore fits in wherever a design statement is desired but perhaps not expected. As a bedside lamp to the right and left of the bed, as wall light in the hallway, a guest WC, above a desk, in a group pendant lights above the dining table, a counter, a bar - there are virtually no limits to the versatility of Canned Light.
Wall and pendant light in one
With a lampshade diameter of 8.5 centimetres, the Canned Light pendant light is equipped with a cable of two meters in length. Mounted as wall light , the Canned Light has a depth of 18 centimeters and a height of 15 centimeters. In addition to the wall and pendant light Canned Light, TAGWERC also offers the entire Ingo Mauer collection. Online, at TAGWERC Design STORE, you can experience a curated selection of Ingo Maurer design objects. For all Ingo Maurer objects from the Ingo Maurer collection not listed here, we will be happy to make you an individual offer.
