ULTRAFRAGOLA MIRROR

by Ettore Sottsass, 1970

The Ultrafragola mirror is a wall mirror and light object in one. The mirror was designed by the Austrian Designer Ettore Sottsass in 1970 and is still manufactured by Poltronova (Centro Studi Poltronova) in Florence today. The almost two-meter-high Ultrafragola Mirror not only impresses with its imposing size, but also surprises the viewer with its additional function, the lighting integrated into the mirror. The wave-shaped mirror frame then glows 'light pink'.

Ultrafragola mirror - Everything but ordinary

The furnishing experts from the TAGWERC Design STORE recommend Ultrafragola from Poltronova for all those who want to combine exceptional design with sophisticated functionality. Despite its size, Ultrafragola is only 13 centimeters deep. This makes the Ultrafragola mirror object from Poltronova ideal for use in hallways, next to the entrance in the bedroom or in a walk-in closet. When switched off, the frame of the Ultrafragola mirror light is white and therefore has a neutral effect. When switched on, Ultrafragola Pink lights up, with the intensity of the color appearing to decrease from the outside to the inside due to the arrangement of the individual waves. The mirror object owes its name to this special lighting design, as Ultrafragola translates as 'ultra-strawberry'. This mirror is therefore anything but ordinary.

Wonderful femininity

Ultrafragola was part of the 'Mobili Grigi' series, which Ettore Sottsass designed in the late 1960s / early 1970s. The 'Elledue' bed, a chest of drawers, was designed to match the Ultrafagola mirror, chairs, table and the lights 'Cometa' and 'Bruco'. What all the furnishing objects had in common was the integrated lighting and the design dominated by waves. Ultrafragola is a homage to wonderful femininity, as the wave-like profile of the mirror light is intended to be reminiscent of long hair falling down in waves.
