This refers to the special design of the Pipistrello lamps by designer Gae Aulenti The lamps in question have been manufactured by Martinelli Luce in Italy since the 1960s. While the lamp base, the foundation of the Pipistrello... table lamp, Resembling a tapered column, the lampshade is inspired by bat wings. The distinctive shape of the lampshade is made of methacrylate plastic. This opal white diffuser provides indirect, softly glowing light.
Table lamp with telescopic system
With an overall height of 66 to 86 centimeters, the table lamp is height-adjustable. This is advantageous when looking for a versatile light source that allows for flexible placement even within the same room. Weighing approximately 10 kilograms, this lamp offers sufficient stability for use in public spaces. While the 55-centimeter diameter reflector remains constant, the lacquered metal base is available in various colors. The Pipistrello 620 table lamp is equipped with four 5-watt LED bulbs. The bulbs have an E14 socket. TAGWERC with, so that the light is ready for immediate use after delivery.
Form and function
Gae Aulenti, the creator of the Pipistrello lamp, was one of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century in Italy, if not the world. The Milanese woman had a special gift for the interplay of form and function and studied the properties of various materials and technologies throughout her life, which she skillfully incorporated into her work.
Inspiration from Brâncuși
Aulenti found inspiration, among other things, in the works of the Romanian-French sculptor Constantin Brâncuși (1876–1957). In connection with the design of the Pipistrello lamp, Brâncuși's sculptural works of flying birds and his
Polished sculptures whose design approximated industrial forms. Of particular note in this context is the 'Endless Column' in Târgu Jiu, Romania, also known as the 'Column of Infinity' (1937-1938).
Museums and collections
The Pipistrello table lamp is undoubtedly one of Gae Aulenti's most famous works, and a prime example of 1960s Italian design. This sculptural lamp combines organic forms with innovative materials and modern manufacturing technologies to create a timeless and eternally youthful design object. To this day, the Pipistrello lamp's design has inspired numerous artists, won design awards, and is represented in prestigious museums and collections worldwide.
