Bauhaus 1 Carpet
Important works of the Bauhaus
Gertrud Arndt (1903–2000) was a pioneer in many respects. The Bauhaus student held her own in the male-dominated fields of design and photography. Although she originally wanted to become an architect and turned her back on weaving after her studies, two works were created during her time at the Bauhaus. Carpets, which are still among the most important Bauhaus designs today: Bauhaus carpet No. 1 and Bauhaus carpet No. 2.
Expressionist era
Measuring 120 by 200 centimeters, the Bauhaus Rug No. 1 has a rectangular base. The pattern itself is composed of squares in different colors, arranged symmetrically to one another. The overall effect is reminiscent of an Expressionist painting, a style prevalent between 1905 and 1925, whose works rebelled against the bourgeoisie of the German Empire and the First World War. The Bauhaus Rug No. 1 is made of pure new wool with a pile height of approximately 16 millimeters. The rug can be cleaned and repaired if necessary, an unbeatable advantage not offered by tufted rugs.
100 percent natural
Made from pure new wool, the Bauhaus Carpet No. 1 boasts a range of positive qualities, making it a comfortable floor covering for almost any room. The carpet is robust, stain-resistant, durable, warm, air-purifying, moisture-regulating, and flame-retardant. It's an attractive addition to any home, office, meeting room, or lobby, combining classic design with virtually any interior style.
Size and color composition
Bauhaus Carpet No. 1 and Bauhaus Carpet No. 2 differ in size and color composition. This gives the pattern a completely different effect. Both carpets by Gertrud Arndt are available at TAGWERC, specialist for design classics, available.
