Bauhaus 1 carpet
Important works of the Bauhaus
Gertrud Arndt (1903 - 2000) was a pioneer in many respects. The Bauhaus student asserted herself in the male domains of the time: design and photography. Even though she actually wanted to become an architect and turned her back on the art of weaving after her training, during her time at the Bauhaus she created two carpetswhich are still among the most important Bauhaus designs today: Bauhaus Carpet No. 1 and Bauhaus Carpet No. 2.

The era of Expressionism
Measuring 120 by 200 centimetres, the Bauhaus rug no. 1 has a rectangular basic shape. The pattern itself is made up of squares in different colors, which in turn are arranged symmetrically to one another. Together, the arrangement looks like a painting in the style of Expressionism, the era between 1905 and 1925, whose works rebelled against the bourgeoisie of the German Empire and the First World War. The Bauhaus rug no. 1 is made of pure new wool with a pile height of around 16 millimetres. The rug can be cleaned and repaired if necessary, an unbeatable advantage that tufted carpets do not offer.
100 percent nature
Thanks to the pure new wool used, the Bauhaus rug no. 1 has a range of positive properties that make it ideal as a cozy floor covering in almost any room. The rug is robust, dirt-repellent, hard-wearing, warming, air-purifying, moisture-regulating and flame-retardant. An attractive island in every respect for the home, office, meeting room or lobby, combining classic design with almost any furnishing style.
Size and color composition
Bauhaus Rug No. 1 and Bauhaus Rug No. 2 differ in size and color composition. In this way, the pattern has a completely different effect. Both carpets by Gertrud Arndt are available at TAGWERCspecialist for design classics.
