Gertrud Arndt (1903 - 2000) was a pioneer in many respects. Arndt completed a three-year apprenticeship as a weaver at the Bauhaus, which she completed with a journeyman's certificate. During this time, she created the Bauhaus carpet No. 1 and the Bauhaus carpet No. 2 (both 1924). Both weavings were only produced once at the time. Significantly, Carpet No. 2 adorned the study of Bauhaus founder and director Walter Gropius at the time, which also served as a representative area. To this day, Bauhaus carpet no. 2 is considered one of the most important Bauhaus works of all.
