One from the Heart table lamp
Ingo Maurer designed the [system/device] as early as 1989. table lamp One From The Heart As a wedding gift for friends. The 95-centimeter tall lamp measures 40 centimeters in width and comes with a 3-meter-long power cable and a corded transformer with a slider switch. The heart, the central theme of this light fixture, is formed partly from red plastic and partly from a mirror that appears to float above it. Depending on the surroundings, both the red heart and the heart-shaped light are projected onto the wall.
The base of the One From The Heart lamp consists of two metal discs that overlap as if forming a single surface. Two crocodiles serve as the lamp's feet, stabilizing the upper disc. From the center of the two discs, two wires spiral upwards – one red and one blue. Similar to the veins and arteries of the heart, these lifelines converge in the heart of the One From The Heart lamp. A movable, heart-shaped mirror, stretched above the heart, directs the light reflection to the desired location.
One from The Heart is named after Francis Ford Coppola's 1982 romantic drama of the same name. The light fixture was so well-received by Ingo Maurer's friends and guests that it was eventually developed into a mass-produced item and remains a permanent part of the Ingo Maurer collection to this day. Other prominent designs by Ingo Maurer include: the stork legs "Bibibibi" (1982) made of red plastic, the pair of wings "Lucellino" (1992), the pendant lamps "Porca Miseria!" (1994) and "Zettel'z 5" (1997), and Alizz T. Cooper (2008). Since the early 1980s, Maurer has collaborated with a group of designers who assist him in realizing his ideas.
„The quality of the light is more important to me than the form, and that’s what I’ve focused on,“ says Ingo Maurer about his work as one of the most important light artists.Designer of the 20th century. His lighting designs were preceded by the iconic lamp „Bulb“, which came about in 1966 through a twist of fate and has accompanied Ingo Maurer throughout his life: „The light bulb has always been my guiding principle, from the very beginning.“ Maurer’s designs are diverse and sometimes arise in symbiotic cooperation with other designers, such as in 2012 with Moritz Waldemeyer for the LED lamp with the telling name „My New Flame“.
