The inscription on the gun lamp base reflects this political intention. "Happiness is a hot gun" can be read here. Not forgetting the inside of the lampshade, on which printed crosses underline the statement. The base of the Lounge Gun Gold lamp is in the shape of an M16 rifle standing vertically upwards on the butt plate, which is used by the US armed forces, among others. In addition to the M16 rifle, Philippe Starck uses the silhouette of the Russian Klashnikov AK 47 assault rifle and machine gun in the table lamp Table Gun and the Beretta handgun at table lamp Bedside Gun for Starck's social criticism turned design.
With the floor lamp Lounge Gun Gold by Philippe Starck for Flos, the head of the luminaire consists of a cone-shaped lampshade that provides direct light. The light source is concealed to the side in a simple yet elegant way. At the same time, the light is emitted upwards and downwards, bathing the immediate surroundings in a harmonious interplay of light and shadow. The light reflected in white (at the Lounge gun chrome) or gold (in the case of the Lounge Gun Gold), the inside of the lampshade absorbs the light before it escapes.
The lampshade is made of plasticized paper, while the lamp base is made of die-cast aluminium and then galvanically gold-plated (Lounge Gun Gold) or chrome-plated (Lounge Gun Chrome). The cable is fitted with an electronic dimmer, allowing the lights Guns collection to be dimmed gradually.
The Lounge Gun Gold is equipped with a state-of-the-art light source: a 21 watt LED and a light temperature of 3,000 Kelvin (warm white). A round base gives the Lounge Gun Gold floor lamp from Flos a secure stand. The cable connection that supplies the Lounge Gun Gold with power is also located on the side. Whether as a reading light, mood light or elegant and expressive accent in the living room, bedroom, bar or lobby - the Lounge Gun Gold floor light from Italian lighting manufacturer Flos can be used flexibly anywhere. Finished in 18-carat gold - as shown here - or alternatively coated in chrome, the Lounge Gun luminaire from Flos is designed to attract attention.
Flos states that 20 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Guns lights collection will be donated to the non-profit organization "Frères de Hommes Europe", which provides humanitarian aid in crisis areas, particularly in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The lights of the Guns collection are political statements and art that denounce war and the arms trade as well as the predatory greed associated with it. As such, the Gun lamp is on permanent display in the "Centre George Pompidou" museum of contemporary art in Paris, among other places.
Lounge Gun Gold by Philippe Starck for the Italian lighting manufacturer Flos is more than just a floor lamp. Rather, the Lounge Gun Gold floor lamp is both an art object and a political statement. Philippe Starck explains: "I wanted to design objects that remind us that our prosperity is based on the death of others."
