Dalilips sofa

In the 1970s, the Spanish surrealist Dalí met his compatriot Oscar Tusquets Blanca, architect and founding member of BD Barcelona. BD Barcelona's relationship with the art world is deeply rooted in the Spanish company's beginnings, starting in 1972 with Salvador Dalí, one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. Between 1972 and 1974, the Spanish master, together with Óscar Tusquets, developed the "Saliva Sofa," that legendary art sofa inspired by the lips of the American film actress Mae West—actually Mary Jane West—and produced for the Mae West Hall in the Theatre Museum in Figueres. A first prototype was created in 1973. Although the sofa was conceived from the outset as a limited edition, it was not initially produced as such. It wasn't until thirty years later, in 2004, that it was finally released as a limited edition sofa.„Dalilips“Sofa will be available.”.

The Dalilips sofa resembles a sculpture more than a couch. Although made of polyethylene, its detailed and multifaceted design makes it deceptively realistic and authentic – like an oversized, red pair of lips. The seat rests on the lower lip, while the upper lip forms the backrest. Lips are undoubtedly a symbol of love and are used as such in many ways. Lips accentuated with red lipstick, kiss marks on letters and envelopes, and the kiss emoji of today all symbolize love. The Dalilips sofa seats two people. The perfect spot, then, for lovers, or those who aspire to be.

Salvador Dalí, the master of Surrealism, understood like no other how to bring dreams and fantastical visions to life through his paintings. He embraced the fantastic and the irrational, deliberately incorporating eroticism and taboo-breaking into his art, creating a reality beyond reality, in keeping with the meaning of the French words "sur" – above – and "réalisme" – reality. Clocks melting in the sun, elephants walking on long, spidery legs, bodies with drawers – these are typical elements and sequences in Dalí's paintings. And, as seen here in Dalí's sofa, plump, red lips whose sculpted form practically draws the viewer in and even invites them to linger.

In the bedroom, a dressing room, or even outdoors in the garden, on a terrace, on board a yacht, or on the beach – the Dalilips sofa is suitable for outdoor use and invites you to admire and use it anywhere. Thanks to its relatively compact size of 1.70 meters, the Dalilips couch can even fit where other sofas would simply be too bulky. Dalilips sofas are undoubtedly always a highlight that leaves a lasting impression – no matter where they are used.

The Dalilips sofa is part of BD Barcelona's Art Editions, which exclusively features handcrafted art objects – exclusive, unique, and of timeless elegance and value. TAGWERC The furniture from the Salvador Dalí collection offered by Design STORE is not just furnishings – it is a work of art that takes the viewer and user on a surreal journey.

Salvador Dalí is one of the most famous—if not the most famous—Spanish painters of the 20th century. The Catalan-born artist is considered a leading figure of Surrealism. His paintings fetch top prices and are represented in major collections. The artworks shown here are 3D reproductions of his paintings. Some are limited editions and reflect Dalí's ideas.
