Inspired by Pop Art and in the style of Radical Design by the designers Gionatan de Pas, Donato d'Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi (Studio DDL), the popularity of baseball player Joe DiMaggio, centerfielder with back number 5 for the New York Yankees, played a decisive role. DiMaggio embodied honesty, respect and loyalty. The son of Sicilian immigrants from a humble background, he left school for sport at the age of 16. In 1949, he signed a contract with the New York Yankees for 100,000 dollars a year. Marilyn Monroe was DiMaggio's great love and the two were a couple from 1952 to 1954. Until DiMaggio's death in 1999, he regularly sent red roses to her grave. Just as the New York Yankees no longer give out the number 5 in his honor, Sudio DDL has created a design monument to the charismatic sportsman with Italian roots with the Joe lounge chair.
Joe Gold consists of a steel frame upholstered with polyurethane foam. The robust shell of the XXL size armchair is made of soft, gold-colored smooth leather. The armchair rests on castors, which keeps the Joe Gold leather armchair mobile despite its considerable size. With a width of 175 centimetres, a depth of 110 centimetres and a height of 95 centimetres, Joe offers enough space to relax and unwind. Despite its sculptural shape, Joe Gold is by no means short on comfort. The TAGWERC Design STORE recommends Joe Gold to anyone who doesn't want to compromise on comfort for something special.
