Joe is shaped like an oversized baseball glove and was designed in 1970/1971 as a tribute to the legendary baseball player Joseph Paul “Joe” DiMaggio by the Italian design trio Studio DDL designed. The Joe Plush lounge chair is made by Poltronova Made by hand according to customer specifications – optionally in the colors 'Taffy Pink', 'Dove Grey', and 'Baby Blue'. Inspired by Pop Art and conceived in the style of Radical Design by designers Gionatan de Pas, Donato d'Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi (Studio DDL), the popularity of baseball player Joe DiMaggio, center fielder with jersey number 5 for the New York Yankees, played a crucial role. DiMaggio embodied honesty, respect, and loyalty. The son of Sicilian immigrants from humble beginnings, he left school at 16 to pursue his sport. In 1949, he signed a contract with the New York Yankees for $100,000 a year. Marilyn Monroe was DiMaggio's great love, and the two were a couple from 1952 to 1954. Until DiMaggio's death in 1999, he regularly sent her red roses to her grave. Just as the New York Yankees retired the number 5 in his honor, Studio DDL has created a design tribute to the charismatic athlete with Italian roots with the Joe lounge chair.
