SOFO ARMCHAIR

The design group Superstudio, known for avant-garde designs and probably the most famous representatives of the Radical Design movement, designed Sofo Introduced in 1968, Sofo consists of an armchair and a two-seater sofa, which, thanks to their design, can be arranged almost endlessly side-by-side, but can also be placed individually – entirely according to the room's layout. Expressive color blocking combined with racing stripes enhances the dynamic look and makes Sofo a sleek seating option.

Rally stripes were first used by motorsport racing teams in the late 1960s and early 1970s to mark their racing cars – for better differentiation and to visually emphasize their streamlined shape. This practice was adopted in the 1980s by sporty drivers with racing ambitions, and the automotive industry also occasionally uses this design on some models, such as the Ford Mustang. Rally stripes are meant to symbolize a stylized racetrack – in any case, they transform the Sofo armchair into a curved and aerodynamic seating option, low-slung and perfectly formed.

And the color of the rally stripes contrasts sharply with the body color. The Sofo armchair is available in a choice of base colors. Green or pink. Pink racing stripes provide a contrasting element on the green Sofo armchair. On the pink Sofo armchair, orange racing stripes enhance the dynamic look. With a side length of 82 centimeters, the Sofo armchair measures a total height of 70 centimeters. The seat height is 40 centimeters.

The basic form of the Sofo sofa consists of a polyurethane rectangle, which, when cut into two equal parts, creates two Sofo armchairs. This symmetry offers a multitude of combination possibilities and makes Sofo perfect for creating seating islands that can be used from multiple sides. But Sofo is also ideal in a home theater, as a waiting area in a foyer, or as a design element along a seemingly endless, long wall, under a window, in a niche, in front of a box spring bed, or in a bar.

The upholstery fabric is an integral part of the Sofo armchair's design and was also developed specifically for Sofo by Superstudio, according to its creator, Natalini. He also pays tribute to Superstudio's surrealist and futuristic approach to the Sofo design.
