HERPE

by Superstudio, 1968

Gherpe, the charismatic table and floor lamp by Centro Studi Poltronova, is reminiscent in its form of the spirally coiled shell of a nautilus. The Gherpe table and floor lamp was designed in 1967 as one of the first designs by the Italian design collective Superstudio. Superstudio is considered one of the most important proponents of Radical Design, a then-new design approach that rejected tradition and moved towards an object-free avant-garde.

Gherpe table lamp

The Table and floor lamp Gherpe Due to its unique shape, reminiscent of a seashell, a familiar marine creature, Gherpe doesn't belong to the well-known and common typologies of lighting fixtures. The use of an industrial material like methacrylate was also rather avant-garde for lighting, practically novel in the year the lamp was created. It is precisely this unconventional combination that distinguishes Gherpe and Superstudio, a group of architects including Peter Frassinelli, Alessandro and Roberto Magris, Adolfo Natalini, Alessandro Poli, and Christiano Torald di Francia, and makes the light object an artifact of design history. As such, Gherpe is exhibited in design museums worldwide. The fan-shaped light object is flexibly mounted, allowing it to be positioned in a multitude of different ways, thus constantly creating a new effect. TAGWERC At Design STORE you can purchase Gherpe as a licensed re-edition of the original 1967 design with a guarantee of authenticity.

The Gherpe table and floor lamp is available in two different variations: fluorescent Red and opal White. Measuring 38 centimeters in height and 31 centimeters in width, Gherpe has a depth of 53 centimeters. A 10-watt LED light source illuminates Gherpe. Whether placed on a marble base, a side table, or directly on a concrete floor, in the hallway, living room, dressing room, or as atmospheric lighting in the bedroom – Gherpe can be playfully showcased and can transform the emotional perception of a room.

The Gherpe lamp is a unique design object that perfectly combines form and function. A must-have for all design enthusiasts and an investment otherwise only found in design museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou It can be admired in Paris or at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montreal. This makes Gherpe an emotional companion, not just a functional piece of furniture – the perfect choice for art connoisseurs and lovers of exclusive furnishings.
