Passiflora table lamp
Because the flower's distinctive shape is reminiscent of the Passion of Christ (the stamens representing Christ's wounds, the three scars as the nails of the crucifixion, and the halo as the crown of thorns), the passionflower's name derives from this symbolism. Passiflora The lamp, in turn, traces its origins back to a colored cardboard prototype created in 1967 by the two founding members of Superstudio for the exhibition "Superarchitettura," the manifesto of radical design. This cardboard was replaced with a translucent material, transforming Passiflora into a column of light reaching towards the sun—a column whose distorted profile oscillates between natural and artificial. This interplay of allusions and ambiguities is characteristic of Superstudio's design language and is evident in almost all of their designs.
Because the Table and floor lamp Due to its distinctive shape, reminiscent of a passionflower, Passiflora is not among the familiar and commonly used types of lighting fixtures. The use of an industrial material like methacrylate is also rather avant-garde for lighting. It is precisely this unconventional combination that distinguishes Passiflora and Superstudio, a project by architects Peter Frassinelli, Alessandro and Roberto Magris, Adolfo Natalini, Alessandro Poli, and Christiano Torald di Francia, and makes the lighting object an artifact of design history. As such, Passiflora is exhibited in design museums worldwide.
Measuring 29 centimeters in height and 30 centimeters in width, Passiflora has a depth of 41 centimeters. A 10-watt LED light source illuminates Passiflora. Whether displayed as an object on a marble base, a side table, placed directly on a concrete floor, in the hallway, living room, dressing room, or as atmospheric lighting in the entryway – Passiflora can be playfully showcased and can transform the emotional perception of a room.
The Passiflora lamp is a unique design object that perfectly combines form and function. A must-have for all design enthusiasts and an investment otherwise only found in design museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou Passiflora can be admired in Paris or at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montreal. This makes Passiflora an emotional companion, not just a functional piece of furniture – the perfect choice for art connoisseurs and lovers of exclusive furnishings.
