PANTON TRAY SMALL

by Verner Panton, 1988

The Panton Tray by Georg Jensen, in the small size, is made of stainless steel according to a design by Verner Panton. The Panton Tray, also known as the Panton Crash Tray or simply Crash Tray, functions more like a bowl than a traditional tray. In addition to the small size, the Panton Tray is also available in a medium size and a particularly elegant silver version. To illustrate the design language he envisioned for the Panton Tray, designer Verner Panton is said to have taken a sheet of paper from the Georg Jensen factory, crumpled it up, and then unfolded it. Voilà, c'est Panton Tray.

The anti-functionalist trend in 1980s design is reflected in the Panton Tray just as it is in a number of other design classics: from Ron Arad's 'Bad Tempered Chair' to Philippe Starck's 'Juicy Salif' lemon squeezer for the iconic Italian label Alessi. "For me, it's not about how things look, but about the feelings they evoke," Starck is quoted as saying in an article in the Rheinische Post. With 'Juicy Salif,' it was never about functionality, but solely about spectacle.

In contrast, the Panton Tray proves to be extremely practical and versatile in everyday use. It offers a refreshing alternative to conventional glass, metal, or plastic bowls, not only for foods like fruit, vegetables, pastries, nuts, and other snacks, but also as an ideal storage solution for keys and various odds and ends from your jacket pocket, such as coins and cards.

Panton Tray, in German 'Panton Tablett', by Georg Jensen The small size Panton Tray is a decorative, food-safe tray made of polished stainless steel. Its unique design makes the tray appear delicate and light despite its robustness, as the Panton Tray resembles a crumpled sheet of paper. Thus, the Panton Tray unites apparent opposites: the look of light paper with the sturdiness of solid stainless steel. The Panton Tray is based on a design by Verner Panton from 1988. Design Interior Specialist Tagwerc Panton Tray is offered in two sizes by a select retailer. Upon special request, Panton Tray can also be manufactured in exclusive silver in addition to stainless steel.

As for Verner Panton Typically, the Panton Tray plays with the reflection of light and shadow and the mirroring of other design elements in the room. Then as now, the Panton Tray is produced by Georg Jensen in both stainless steel and silver. This makes the piece suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and undoubtedly belongs to the genre of 20th-century decorative art. A must-have for every design-conscious home, the original is available in various finishes from the interior design specialist Tagwerc.
