ONION

by Verner Panton, 1977

The Onion pendant lamp in white by Verpan consists of lacquered metal slats with a white finish. A redesign of the Yamagiwa, originally designed by Verner Panton in 1977, the Onion pendant lamp was introduced 30 years later. Made from a multitude of vertically arranged, white lacquered metal slats, its bulbous shape is reminiscent of an onion. Furthermore, the individual strip segments cover the lamp's core, the light source. This creates varying degrees of illumination across the slats, generating a mysterious depth. The artistic effect: the light is reflected and illuminates its surroundings in a unique way.
