SPIRAL SP1 pendant light

by Verner Panton, 1970

Spiral SP1 pendant light in gold or silver from the interior design label Verpan is a chandelier that did away with traditional notions of opulent, classic clusters back in the late 1960s. Based on a design by the designer and architect Verner Panton from 1969/1970, the pendant light Spiral SP1 is less reminiscent of a pendant lamp and more of a light object formed from spirals.

The Danish Designer Verner Panton designed this lighting, which consists of an entire light series with various models, for the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1970, more precisely for the Visiona 2 exhibition, for which an entire ship was redesigned. A year later, Panton was commissioned to furnish a restaurant in Aarhus, Denmark. Here too, in the Varna Palais, a neoclassical building on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula, the Spiral SP1 pendant light was used. Verner Panton combined the Spiral pendant lights with a whole series of his designs: Amoebe, Amoebe Highback, Illumesa, Cloverleaf Sofa, Ball Type H and VP Globe pendant lights as well as the lounge combination Welle. All these designs by Verner PAnton are available at TAGWERC Design STORE .

As part of the Spiral family, the pendant light Spiral SP1 consists of lacquered acrylic spirals suspended in nylon strings and attached to a large acrylic ceiling plate, lacquered in the same color as the luminaire. The Spiral SP1 chandelier in silver or gold has a diameter of 48 centimeters and a height of 115 centimeters. The light source with a maximum output of 100 watts is fed via a transparent cable that runs through the ceiling rose. The extravagant cluster is available as Spiral SP1 (115 centimeters), Spiral SP2 (180 centimeters) and Spiral SP3 (220 centimeters) are available at TAGWERC Design STORE . In addition to silver, the Spiral lights in gold and multicolor. The design interior specialist TAGWERC also offers to lengthen or shorten the chandeliers on request.
