SPIRAL SP3 pendant light

by Verner Panton, 1970

The Spiral SP3 pendant light in gold or silver is the largest member of the Spiral family, designed by Verner Panton in 1969 / 1970. SP is an abbreviation for Spiral, the number 3 means that the luminaire is made up of three identical clusters hanging one below the other. Made of acrylic, formerly Cellidor, the spirals of each ring have different lengths. They are connected to each other and to the gold-colored canopy by transparent nylon cord.

Spiral SP3 Spiral light

Spiral SP3 is the headliner in every room. In addition to the pendant light Spiral SP3 in gold, the certified original model is also available from design interior specialist TAGWERC in multicolor and silver.

The Danish Designer Verner Panton designed this lighting, which consists of an entire light series with various models, for the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1970, more precisely for the Visiona 2 exhibition, for which an entire ship was redesigned. A year later, Panton was commissioned to furnish a restaurant in Aarhus, Denmark. Here too, in the Varna Palais, a neoclassical building on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula, the Spiral SP3 model was used, albeit in the color silver.

More a fountain of light than a pendant light - the Spiral SP3 impresses every observer. Countless acrylic spirals form three identical clusters. Placed one below the other, they hide the light source inside. With a sensational height of 2.20 meters and a diameter of 48 centimeters, the chandelier can be placed almost anywhere - either in halls and staircases or in rooms, even directly above the floor.

The pendant light Spiral SP3 in silver or gold from the Danish interior design label Verpan is used wherever a statement needs to be made. Where the furnishings call for an exclamation mark. The Spiral SP3 pendant light sets a sophisticated accent without being obtrusive. The spirals, once made of Cellidor, now make use of the advantages of plastic. Painted gold or silver, they reflect their surroundings. In this way, the Spiral SP3 pendant light creates a very special accent in almost any environment.
