Louis Poulsen
Danish luminaire design
Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen has a long tradition in the production of luxurious lights and electrical equipment. Its roots go back to 1874, when Ludvig R. Poulsen opened a wine import business, only to close it four years later and launch his second company in 1892, selling tools and electrical accessories. In 1906, nephew Louis took over his late uncle's business and two years later moved to Nyhavn (Danish for "new harbor"), the central harbor of the Danish capital Copenhagen. The address Gammel Strand 28 is still the headquarters of the globally active company and Louis' home today.
Visionaries Designer
Louis Poulsen began collaborating with visionary designers in 1924 with Poul Henningsen. This made the Danish company one of the most innovative manufacturers of lighting solutions in the world. The revolutionary ideas of designers and architects such as Verner Panton, Poul Henningsen and Arne Jacobsen and their visionary lighting concepts can only take shape thanks to sound manufacturing know-how. Many of these products once began as a crazy idea. By incorporating ever new lighting technologies and with qualified specialist retail partners on site, it is possible to provide interior designers and end users alike with efficient and elegant lighting solutions. Many of the lights lamps produced by Louis Poulsen have become charismatic classics over the years. This is partly due to their external appearance, but also to the unique lighting experience they offer.
Glare-free light
In 1958, Poul Henningsen designed a glare-free pendant lamp that was named after his initials and is still produced by Louis Poulsen today with minimal modifications: PH 50, with the number indicating the diameter in centimeters. Verner Panton's designs also work with glare-free light. Once the manufacturer of a large number of Panton lights, Louis Poulsen now only produces a single model in two configurations: the Panthella T for Table Lamp (table lamp) and Panthella F for Floor Lamp (floor lamp).
